It has been widely performed in manuscript form both as a quartet and as a choir. Two contrasting styles of performance are included in this attractive musical package. The Clog Dance is patterned after the Cape Breton style of dance that has its roots in Ireland.

The dedication to Gary Tirey is most appropriate, since he has been an active promoter of low brass ensemble music and performance for OMEA,and also organizes the TubaChristmas for the Columbus area each year. Using Franz Schubert’s collections of waltzes as a starting point, he completed the original version for piano in 1911. Louis Aubert gave the first performance on May 9, 1911, at the Salle Gaveau in Paris. The following year, Ravel orchestrated a version for ballet, titled ADÉLAÏDE, OU LE LANGAGE DES FLEURS, which premiered on April 22 at the Théatre du Chatelet to a scenario devised by the composer himself. This publication has been edited by Clinton F. Nieweg and is part of the Nieweg Performance Editions series.
