| 2703 | 25FAF56C-BDF2-4BBD-928A-B687BE6D52E6 | A156202 | Symphony No. 44 in E minor ‘Trauersinfonie’ (Hob. I:44) | Symphony No. 44 was completed in 1772 by Franz Joseph Haydn (1732-1809). Rumored that the composer requested the third movement be played at his funeral, the work is popularly known as "Trauersinfonie," or the "Mourning" symphony. The piece displays Haydn’s "Sturm und Drang" (storm and stress) style, and has four movements, as is typical of a Classical era symphony. Haydn, rather unusually, placed the minuet and trio as the second movement rather than the third, making Symphony No. 44 one of the few symphonies of the Classical era to alter the traditional movement order. This Breitkopf & Härtel reprint edition places the movements in the traditional Classical era format, with the minuet as the third movement. | 2704 | 25FC6387-E894-46ED-A359-9219F3709D9D | SS32 | Study In Lavender, A | Eric Osterling (1926-2005), sometimes referred to as the "Schubert" of the band world due to his unusual give for melody, was a noted band composer and Director of Music for the Portland, Connecticut Public Schools. He will be remembered by many as the composer of the very popular "Nutmeggers March," "Waltzing Winds" and many other equally delightful selections for band. The "study" is written in modern style with lush harmonies and pleasing tonal effects. Listening to the work, one almost has the sensation of being "bathed" in sound! It is as the title indicates, a "study" in harmonic and bandstration color. Containing no programmatic elements of lofty ideals, it is music written from the heart to the heart. Versions for clarinet choir and band are available from the publisher. | Clarinet Choir | |

| 2707 | 2611FFF4-9BD9-4FAB-93A9-DDC2C46EBAEA | A906290 | Arietta for String Orchestra | Leroy Anderson composed "Arietta" in 1962 in Woodbury, Connecticut. The main melody first materialized as a brief eight-measure sketch for viola and cello, intended for Leroy Anderson's daughter Jane on viola and himself on cello. Anderson later decided to expand the melody into a composition for string orchestra. Leroy Anderson is known for his polished orchestrations of descriptive compositions, characterized as romantic or nostalgic in theme. "Arietta" stands in contrast as an elegant, cool and somewhat abstract piece. "...the string part of the orchestra and string orchestra editions are identical, since the music is complete with strings alone. Wind parts of the orchestra editions double the strings for added color and may be used as available." An American Pops classic in it's original scoring, this work is part of the Anderson Classics Series by E.F. Kalmus. This set for just string orchestra includes a string count of 8-8-5-5-5. | String Orchestra (8-8-5-5-5 in set) | |

This spirited work retains the original key of D Major and would make an excellent contest or festival work. This is a great opportunity for students to perform standard orchestra repertoire at an accessible level. | String Orchestra

He worked for the Archbishop of Salzburg at the time and these sonatas served a liturgical purpose, functioning as interludes between Epistle readings during Mass. In addition to the fourteen sonatas for organ and strings (sans viola), he wrote three for an expanded orchestra which included oboes, horns, trumpets and timpani. This Kalmus edition, the second in a three-volume set, includes Sonata Nos. 9-11, 13, and 15. Instrumentation: Str (2.2.0.1.1 in set): Org (in sc). | 2712 | 261C5452-F44E-4614-B460-741394FEC230 | A848902 | Andalucia Suite | Andalucia Suite consists of six individual compositions. Included are the immortal Malaguena and the equally beautiful Andalucia, known as the The Breeze and I. Both Malaguena and Andalucia are complete in this arrangement, as are Gitanerias and Cordoba. The final two melodies, Guadalquivir and Alhambra, are not nearly as well-known but delight listeners and players alike. The main strains of Guadalquivir are included in this arrangement, though it has been cut somewhat. However, only a brief portion of Alhambra, admittedly the most difficult part of the Suite, is to be found. An Advanced Violins part has been printed to offer more brilliance to the arrangement. This may be used in conjunction with the regular violin parts or may even replace Violin I and Violin II entirely. The exact situation in each orchestra will determine the proper selection of parts for Advanced Violins, Violin I and Violin II. Barrett, 5 Melodious Studies by Delphin Alard for Saxophone | The material in this second book of the Barrett studies offers the student the opportunity to continue to develop and refine his musicianship. While including more advanced technical demands, these sonatas are also musically worthy of public performance. | Sax

| 2719 | 2645A6E1-5272-4402-8F23-E1DF9839B138 | M134991 | Sonata In D Major | Johann Gottfried Müthel (1728-1790), German composer and keyboard virtuoso, despite his prominence of the time, has attracted little attention in the past centuries, though contemporaries have described his music as having an "individual character: mysterious, gloom, with unusual modulation, capricious in their course and obstinately opposed to the fashionable taste of his contemporaries." (Schubart) "His works are so full of new ideas, so full of taste, charm and artistic skill, that I would not hesitate to count them amongst the greatest products of our time." (Burney) This sonata for flute and cembalo, however, is neither "mysterious" nor "gloomy," but charming and cheerful. Editor Johann Philipp Hinnenthal has realized the bass in this edition, and the included optional viola da gamba/cello part could be used to further strengthen the bass. | Flute and Cembalo (or Piano) | |
