Each selection was composed according to the criteria designed by Texas choral directors and commissioned by the Texas University Interscholastic League for use in its annual sight singing contest. These graded materials were created specifically for young musicians by recognized composers and comprise a valuable resource as they contain many of the problems encountered in sight singing. This collection can be used effectively as a supplement to the daily instructional sight singing program after an approved system (movable “do”, fixed “do” or numbers) and a rhythm system are established within the choral curriculum. | TB

Sudock, music director and conductor of Musique Sur La Mer Orchestras, in Long Beach, California. Maestro Sudock requested a composition, titled Pacific Visions, that would serve as a bright and energetic opening work to a concert of premières, including pieces by Eric Whitacre and Richard Danielpour. The title of the work refers to the name of the new wing of the Aquarium of the Pacific—Pacific Visions—which provides a unique and powerful educational platform for communicating the challenges and opportunities of creating a sustainable future for our World Ocean. Pacific Visions is cast in the form of a continuously evolving single movement, whose musical ideas are stated at the outset. Th goal is to express through musical sound and gesture the optimistic energy and vision of the Aquarium of the Pacific. | String Orchestra

| 2778 | 272EAB82-C74E-481E-BC7D-4A1EF72495C6 | 50200050 | March No. 1 in C | This march in C major begins with a stately melody with dotted-note rhythms, which is shared between the winds and strings. No section is ignored in this orchestration; every section has a chance to play thematic material. The more lyric trio features melodic solo woodwinds with the accompaniment in the strings. Excerpted from Three Marches for Piano Duet, Op. 45, March No. 1 is a charming example of Beethoven’s work during the middle period of his life. The march is delicate and delightful, with that melodic winsomeness only the best composers can achieve. This would make a wonderful concert opener with its bright tempo, colorful harmonies and happy mood. | Full Orchestra | |
