The work premiered on June 15th, 1810. Egmont tells the story of the heroic Count Egmont, who was condemned to death for having taken a valiant stand against oppression. | 17233 | FB3B639F-37BF-4EC9-BEDA-BDDD2555A7C4 | SS838 | Sonata No. 1 | Samuel Friedrich Heine (1764-1821) was flutist and composer whose works frequently received commendatory reviews for his works, including symphonies, and overture, choral works, flute duets, two flute concertos, two oboe concertos, this sonata for clarinet and piano, and many songs. This "Sonate pour le Piano-forte et Clarinette", Op. 13, should be of especial historical interest to clarinetists for it is one of the earlies known clarinet sonatas. As in most contemporaneous editions, the haphazard editing of the original copy necessitated the frequent addition of interpretative markings and corrections of obvious erros or omissions, though all editoral changes and additions in the piano part are enclosed in parentheses. | Clarinet and Piano

With a libretto written by Eugène Cormon and Michel Carré, it received its premiere in Paris at the Theatre Lyrique on September 30, 1863. It ran for eighteen performances, then was not performed again until after the composer's passing. "Me voila seule dans la nuit" (Here I am alone in the night), sung by the priestess Leila in Act 2, expresses her fear of being left alone in the night, and her solace in recalling the childhood memory of secret meetings with the fugitive youth, Nadir. | 17237 | FB460FC1-D1F9-4225-8D4D-4FF72D9A33E0 | 50250183 | Dance of Youth: Xinjiang Folk Song | This joyful dance contains wonderful stylistic influences from the Xinjiang province of China. From syncopated accompaniment figures to soaring lyric melodies, this arrangement has it all. There is one key change in the middle from A minor to G minor and back. Beware of some chromatic twists, especially the augmented seconds in the 2nd theme. Violin 1 shifts to 3rd position and the cello part will sound much better if they have some shifting experience. Your orchestra will also use a variety of bow strokes, from long and legato to heavily accented. | String Orchestra

Hartley, whose works for saxophone and low brass significantly expanded the repertoire available for those instruments, wrote the QUARTET CONCERTO for SATB saxophones in 1992 for a commission by the Atlanta Saxophone Quartet for a premiere with the DeKalb Symphony Orchestra.
