Volume 2 of this collection includes the following: Pierrette, Op. 41; La Lisonjera, Op. 50; La Morena, Op. 67; Les Sylvains, Op. 60; Arabesque, Op. 61; Valse-Caprice, Op. 33; Danse pastorale, Op. 37; No. 5, Arlequine, Op. 53.Solo Piano

He probably began work on the piece in 1869, which he based on the 1774 gothic ballad of the same name by Gottfried August Bürger. The poem tells of a deceased knight named Wilhelm, returned from war, who takes his fiancé Lénore on a ghostly ride toward death. Édouard Colonne conducted the premiere at the Société Nationale on May 15, 1875. Following the second performance, the composer decided to revise it. He wrote later that he had cut two passages which, in his view, "gave the audience an upset stomach," and in the end, distanced himself from the work. 16257EE057651-6C06-420B-9630-90D7F1FCD1DFM288991Carnival of the Animals, The (Le Carnaval des Animaux)Following a disastrous concert tour of Germany in 1885-86, Camille Saint-Saëns (1835-1921) withdrew to a small Austrian village, where he composed THE CARNIVAL OF THE ANIMALS (LE CARNAVAL DES ANIMAUX) in February 1886. From the beginning, the composer regarded the work as a piece of fun. He wrote to his publishers Durand in Paris that he was composing a work for the coming Shrove Tuesday, and confessing that he knew he should be working on his Third Symphony, but that this work was "such fun" ("... mais c'est si amusant!"). He had apparently intended to write the work for his students at the École Niedermeyer, but it was first performed at a private concert given by the cellist Charles Lebouc on Shrove Tuesday, 9 March 1886. This version for piano four hands was transcribed by Lucien Garban. Reprint edition.Piano Four-Hands
