| 16011 | EAE408F3-7F80-4CBD-BCEA-617F95C1C881 | X203002 | Concertino for Brass | Commissioned by the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, this concertino was originally conceived as a part of a complete educational concert program. Four concertini, each featuring a different instrumental family within the chamber orchestra, are played in succession to demonstrate the characteristic sounds of those instruments. The music is thematically related but not identical to the Concertino for Chamber Orchestra (parts available on rental from the publisher), which serves as the program's closer, demonstrating all of the orchestral sections playing together. This program is suggested by the composer for orchestra concerts, however each instrumental concertino can be performed individually and stands quite effectively on its own as a short chamber recital piece. | C Trumpet, Horn, Trombone | |

| 16013 | eae602e7-9e39-11f0-a418-0022482c9682 | A545902 | Three Japanese Lyrics, K016 | THREE JAPANESE LYRICS, K016, composed in 1912, is a compact but striking set of songs for soprano and chamber ensemble that reflects Igor Stravinsky’s (1882 – 1971) fascination with non-Western cultures and poetic minimalism. Setting three poems from an anthology of Japanese writing translated into Russian, he built an exotic sound world through spare textures, subtle timbral color, and rhythmic flexibility. Scored for voice, two flutes, two clarinets, and string quartet, the work reveals his transition from Russian nationalism toward a more abstract, modernist idiom, prefiguring elements of his later neoclassical and serial styles. Each lyric is dedicated to a composer: Maurice Delage, Florent Schmitt, and Maurice Ravel. The first performance took place in Paris on January 11, 1914 for a concert presented by the Société Musicale Indépendante. Songs included: 1. Akahito; 2. Mazatsumi; 3. Tsaraïuki. | 16017 | eaeed750-9e38-11f0-a418-0022482c9682 | 10508622 | Fantasia on Lobet den Herrn | This composition is based on the well-known hymn tune, LOBET DEN HERRN (PRAISE TO THE LORD) by Joachim Neander. FANTASIA ON 'LOBET DEN HERRN' was the First Price Winner of the Mount Union College Brass Choir Competition of 1986. The first major performance was given by the Mount Union College Brass Choir, Carl H. Kandel, director, on Easter Sunday, 1986, in the National Cathedral, Washington, D.C. The FANTASIA, though written specifically for use as a prelude, postlude, or instrumental anthem in a church service, is nonetheless effective in concert performance. | Brass Choir: 3 Tpts, 4 Hns, 3 Tbns, 2 Bar, Tuba, Timp (opt.) | |

His style is often described as "thirdstream," a term commonly used since the late 1950s to describe the synthesis of elements of classical music not only with jazz but also with other folk and popular traditions. His Sonata for Violin, Cello, and Four Flutes was published in 1980. The fourth flute part is played on alto flute. | Violin, Cello, 3 Standard Flutes and 1 Alto Flute |
