Elsa, a princess in Brabant, is rescued and wedded by a knight in shining armor who insists on remaining nameless. While everyone is familiar with the famous wedding march from the opera (commonly referred to today as "Here Comes the Bride"), "Elsa's Procession to the Cathedral" or "Solemn Procession to the Cathedral" is the actual wedding march, with Elsa and a long train of ladies proceeding slowly and ascending the steps of the cathedral. Musically expressing Elsa's innocent yearning and growing expectation, the choir sings as the orchestra accompanies. This complete excerpt of Act II, Scene 4 includes the very beginning of the next scene to offer cadence options. Scarlatti was commissioned by the Houston Music Guild and received its premiere performance by Jan Cole, bass flute and John Paul, Harspichord. As indicated in the title, the Fantasia is a set of variations on a sonata for harpsichord, selected because of its unusual harmonic characteristics which readily allowed for a synthesis of Baroque and contemporary styles. Variation II allows for the soloist to improvise their own cadenza.Flute, Harpsichord

Set to a libretto by Salomon Mosenthal, based on Shakespeare’s play, its postponed premiere gave Nicolai the opportunity to make some last-minute revisions. The first performance took place on March 9, 1849 at the Königliches Opernhaus in Berlin under the direction of the composer. Initially unsuccessful, it was cancelled after only four performances. After his death, the opera gained popularity. Sir John Falstaff, fond of drink and in search of lost youth, sends two identical love letters to two married women who quickly uncover his schemes. O SÜSSER MOND in Act 3, Scene 2, also known as the Moon Chorus, captures the moonlit scene in which they frighten Falstaff with a forest charade that gives him a dose of humility and a lesson learned.
