Bach. With the text based on Martin Luther's German version of Psalm 130 and the words of a chorale, the 5-movement cantata was commissioned by the minister of a church in Mühlhausen, which is where Bach lived at the time. The music integrates melodies from the chorale into the work and also illustrates Bach's continued interest in counterpoint. Movements: 1. Chorus: Aus der Tiefen rufe ich, Herr, zu dir (G minor), 2. Arioso and Chorale (soprano, bass): So du willst, Herr, Sünde zurechnen (G minor), 3. Instrumentation in set: 0.1.0.1: 0.0.0.0: Str(2.2[altVa1].4[2Va1.2Va2].1.1[Continuo]): SATB VS/Chor/Hpschrd (available separately). | 8137 | 774EFD29-4311-4379-866A-7C2D53BFCE64 | A675390 | Irish Tune from County Derry: British Folk Music Settings, No. 15 | At the age of 19, Percy Aldridge Grainger (1882-1961) embarked on a career as a concert pianist, composer and folksong collector-arranger. It was in the last category that drew him to the tune he called IRISH TUNE FROM COUNTY DERRY, which he first arranged for wordless mixed chorus in 1902. The work proved very popular, and Grainger made several settings over the years that followed, with a version adapted for piano in 1911, and an orchestration for strings and two optional horns in 1913. This orchestral arrangement is now a popular standard in the repertoire. | 0.0.0.0: 2(opt.).0.0.0: Str (8-8-5-5-5 in set) | |

| 8139 | 776152CB-9D62-4F10-99CF-5302750C8DFE | A47C | The Old Sore-Head (Der Alte Brummbar) for Basson and Orchestra | Also titled "Der alte Brummbar" (The Old Grumbling Bear). By Julius Fucik, justifiably called the "Czech March King", this "polka comique" came to the attention of the editor when he began searching for "concert in the park" bassoon solo pieces. The title is thought to be a musical portrait, either of Fucik himself or of some cranky older bassoonist that Fucik met in his long career. The score and parts encourage a comic performance rather than an exercise in virtuosity. Arrangements include: solo with piano (SU422), concert band (S776CB), and orchestra (A47C). | Bassoon/ Orchestra | |
