Alternating arco and pizzicato makes things even more interesting (plus some hooked bowings for the fun of it). Everyone gets the melody, with the exception of the basses, who are kept occupied laying down the tango groove.String Orchestra

766470488DDA-268F-4708-8FAA-A72E461F9017S874Blacksmith VariationsThis clever piece by Jim Mahaffey draws inspiration from two famous pieces of music: "Air and Variations" (nicknamed "The Harmonious Blacksmith") by George Frederick Handel and "The Immovable Do" by Percy Aldridge Grainger. Mahaffey's contemporary orchestration techniques and the contrasting styles of Handel and Grainger result in a unique score that highlights the sonority of the band with its beautiful colors and soloists.Concert Band

They exploit the entire range of the instrument with melodious exercises that include suggested position and valve uses that will help in the study of a very beautiful instrument.Bass Trombone

Much of this can be attributed to his skill as an orator as much as to the troubled times in which he served. The four freedoms are, of course, freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom from want, and freedom from fear.Full Orchestra
76717087B668-F79C-4BFE-B2D8-73864A421343S864Danza Sinfonica"Danza Sinfonica" continues the tradition in classical music of writing works in the Spanish style, established by such works as Verdi's "Il Travatore", Rimsky-Korsakov's "Capriccio Espanole", and Strauss' "Don Quixote." The work opens with solo marimba and bassoon, followed by brief flurries introducing the principal theme of the piece. The remainder of "Danza Sinfonica" is cast in a broad three-part format. The work is permeated with colorful soloist passages, brilliant outbursts by the full band, surprise modulations and splashes of pure instrumental color, as the music transports the listener on a brief journey to the Iberian peninsula for a taste of classic Spanish Flamenco. "Danza Sinfonica" was commissioned and premiered by the Auburn University Symphonic Band. The Osaka Municipal Band performed its Japanese premiere.Concert Band

7674709561BE-5546-4EFA-86D6-9C829945195AS702Colonial SongGrainger's art inextricably linkded to folk music, this composition, which uses no traditional tunes but is meant to express feelings aroused by thoughts of the scenery and people of his native Australia, is perhaps the finest, and may well be the most well-crafted, of any of his original works. Intended to be the first of a set of pieces written in a sweetly romantic vein called "Sentimentals", the composer dedicated this composition to his mother, though it remains the only piece in the set following her death. This edition returned to the original arrangement for band produced by Grainger to create the most authentic version, true to the composer's intentions, with small adjustments in instrumentation made to accommodate the contemporary band.Concert Band
