| 6638 | 61180A8D-955C-4EB0-9F07-033E38B374DD | A234102 | Traviata, La (complete) | LA TRAVIATA (The Fallen Woman) is based on La Dame aux camélias (1852), a play adapted from the novel by Alexandre Dumas fils. The opera was originally titled VIOLETTA, after the main character. Librettist Maria Piave and composer Giuseppe Verdi (1813-1901) wanted to follow Dumas in giving the opera a contemporary setting, but the authorities at La Fenice insisted that it be set in the past, ca. 1700. It was not until the 1880’s that the composer’s and librettist’s original wishes were carried out and “realistic” productions were staged. LA TRAVIATA has become immensely popular and is among the most frequently performed of all operas. | 6639 | 61234df2-9e39-11f0-a418-0022482c9682 | 50711007 | Six Violin Duets, v. 3, Nos. 5-6 | A student of Gaetano Pugnani, Giovanni Battista Viotti (1755-1824) made his sensational debut in Paris in 1782. He performed his own works as it was common in the era . Both his violin playing and his compositions were equally praised by audiences and critics alike. Compositions for two violins are a very important part of Viotti's creations. Viotti included chamber music in his studio, with students performing alongside with the Master. These Six Duets, Op. 19 are published in three volumes. Not only are they pedagogically important, but also terrific concert repertory material. Meticulous care and attention to every detail has been taken in the notation, bowing and fingering of these works by editor and Jascha Heifetz protégé, Endre Granat. | Violin Duo | |
