63275C2DD282-9572-4989-818A-B5DD19759799M907102Pomp and Circumstance March No. 4Of all four marches that came after the overwhelmingly successful No. 1, March No. 4 seems to many people to be most closely related in general effect to the first. Just why this should be so is difficult to say. All five of the Pomp and Circumstance Marches are cast in basically the same form, a two-part A-B-AB, with the "A" part energetic and moving briskly along, and the "B" bringing a change of feeling (even though no actual change of pace is indicated) with the so-called "great tune" by way of contrast. However, it has become almost a tradition with Nos. 1 and 4 to play the final section in a slower tempo, probably in respect of Elgar's tempo marking "Grandioso" at this point. Certainly both of these "great tunes" could, and have, been considered as portraying musically the very essence and glorification of British majesty and power at the time they were written.Concert Band

63335C4DC39C-F6D6-42EF-A9EC-BEE61F1881C2EBM148619Songs of Cole and Johnson Brothers, TheLate in his life, composer J. Rosamond Johnson (Lift Ev'ry Voice and Sing) submitted to his longtime publisher, E.B. Marks, a list of songs that would comprise a volume of his best early popular songs written with his pre-1910 partner Bob Cole and his brother, James Weldon Johnson (Autobiography of an Ex-Colored Man). That list was never put into print...until now. Featuring an introductionby Dr. Thomas Riis (Just Before Jazz) and several rare photos, this new compilation is the latest legacy offering from the Marks archive, which contains a rich heritage of turn-of-the-century African-American, and thus distinctly American, pre-jazz-era popular song. 63395C659AFB-E1A7-4D60-9004-ACD3F71790F7M410791Psalm 94: Sonata in C minorInspired by his mentor Franz Liszt's Piano Sonata in C Minor composed five years prior, Julius Reubke's PSALM 94 SONATA IN C MINOR depicts carefully specific passages taken out of the 94th Psalm, which is a lament against wickedness in this world. As with the Liszt Sonata, the middle movement begins with a chorale, and the final movement is a fugue with an unusually lengthy and chromatic subject. All three movements have no pause between them, making the piece a substantial performance. Edited by Joseph Galema.Organ
