It appears at the opening of the second act of the opera Samson and Delila, in a scene where Delila pleads to an ancient love deity to help her seduce and defeat the Hebrew warrior Samson. This arrangement by Paul Whear effectively translates the haunting aria to the solo brasswind medium, allowing instrumentalists to play and enjoy a fine Romantic miniature. | Tenor Saxophone and Piano | |

| 584 | 07DC1AED-10B6-42AA-A349-BEFB4CE4D6E7 | EBM0610077 | Rapsodia Negra | Formally premiered in Ernesto Lecuona’s Carnegie Hall debut (as a conductor) on October 10, 1943, with Carmelina Delfin as soloist, the work is a grand fantasy on themes from of the composer’s zarzuelas. Thomas Tirino’s arrangement brings percussion instruments to the score, whereas Lecuona had the percussion parts improvised (and thus they were previously missing from the orchestration). Tirino also adds a cadenza (fully notated in this score) near the end of the work where indicated in the manuscript. All elements are brought together into a newly edited and engraved offering in the rental catalog; piano solo (with 2nd piano accompaniment) is also for sale. Note that the piano part for this concert-piece differs from versions of Rapsodia Negra sold as standalone piano, or two-piano, solos past and present. However, all music incorporated in those versions are evident within this version. | Piano, 2.2.2.2: 2.2.3.0: Timp.Perc(3-4): Clst.Hp: Str | |

| 597 | 080C9B34-C5BA-412B-A32A-2D3D761DA4A4 | A304602 | Valse Scherzo, Op. 34 | Probably composed in the early months of 1877, the VALSE SCHERZO, OP. 34, occupies an important position in the oeuvre of Peter Ilyitch Tchaikovsky (1840-1893) as it prepared him to begin work on the Violin Concerto in D the following year. Swept into a whirlwind romance with violinist Iosif Kotek, to whom he dedicated the work, he found the impetus to write it after the former student showed him the score of Édouard Lalo’s Symphony Espagnole. It premiered at Trocadero Hall in Paris on September 21, 1878, with Nikolai Rubinstein conducting and Stanislaw Barcewicz as the soloist.
