398138C43A94-9FD1-46F1-A089-E22768129488S502003Six Sonatas for Violin and Viola, Vol. 2Michael Haydn (1737-1806), younger brother of Josef Haydn, had been in the employ of Colloredo, Archbishop in Salzburg as Court Composer and Leader (Concertmaster) of the court orchestra. In 1783, he was commissioned - or a better word perhaps - ordered by Colloredo to compose a series of six duets for violin and viola. Due to serious illness, he was unable to complete the series. Haydn was concerned that the Archbishop would cancel his fee. Haydn asked his friend Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791) to complete the work by writing the remaining two duets. Mozart composed the duets in a few days, in time to meet the Archbishop’s timeline. For this reason, all six duets were delivered under Michael Haydn’s name. The present edition is the ?rst that reunites the six duets - naturally with the correct attributions. Included in volume 2: 4. Duet in B ?at Major K 424 (W.A. Mozart); 5. Sonata Nr. 3 in F Major MH 337 (M. Haydn); 6. Sonata Nr. 4 in E Major MH 338 (M. Haydn).Violin, Viola

398938D978FC-48B9-406A-9F77-0ABABB923A75SO168CSinfonia No. 15Sinfonia No. 15 by Johann Sebastian Bach, originally for piano solo, is now available for string orchestras thanks to Shirl Jae Atwell’s musical arrangement. In the original key of B minor, an altered time signature from 9/16 to 9/8 is utilized as much more friendly for student musicians. It is a great addition to string orchestra programs with dance-like eighth notes and flashy sixteenth arpeggiated sections, creating an exciting Baroque experience.String Orchestra

Of the three recorded Glorias Vivaldi wrote, only two survive (RV 588 and RV 589), while RV 590 is presumably lost. Although they are now often performed at sacred events including Christmas, the Glorias remained in relative obscurity until a revival performance by Alfredo Casella during “Vivaldi Week” in Siena in 1939. 399238DCDB90-1C70-4616-8DA6-05058DE7F4BDA726290Elegie in G MajorPyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky (1840-1893) received a commission in 1884 from the Moscow Society of Artists to "write some sort of musical entr'acte" for Russian actor Ivan Samarin's jubilee to celebrate fifty years as a performing artist. Accepting the commission despite his then preoccupation with composing his opera Eugene Onegin, Tchaikovsky quickly wrote the piece for string orchestra during a stop in Berlin, titling the work A Grateful Greeting. The work premiered under that title at the jubilee held on December 28th, 1884 at the Bolshoi Theatre, Ippolit Altani conducting. Despite the composer's own reservations in 1884, his publisher convinced Tchaikovsky that the work was worthy of publication in 1890, five years after Samarin's death. At the suggestion of the composer, it was given the new title of Elegy at that time, with A Grateful Greeting retained as a subtitle. This publication of the work includes a string count of 8-8-5-5-5.String Orchestra (8-8-5-5-5 in set)

The celebrated TRUMPET VOLUNTARY, long erroneously attributed to Henry Purcell, was originally published by Jeremiah Clarke, in 1700, as THE PRINCE OF DENMARK'S MARCH in a collection of harpsichord pieces called A CHOICE COLLECTION OF AYRES FOR THE HARPSICHORD. It has also been discovered in a collection of pieces for wind instruments and may have originally been intended as a piece for trumpet and wind ensemble. This arrangement for mixed brass quartet was made by Floyd O. Harris.Mixed Brass Quartet: 2 Trumpets, Trombone 1 (sub. Horn), Trombone 2 (sub. Baritone), opt. Tuba

399938F39A8C-4BAA-4205-A925-24D811401351B581Selected Studies for Oboe, Volume 2This collection of etudes, duets, and exercises was written, compiled and edited by Russian Oboist and Pedagogue Yuri Maizels to provide the most efficient means possible for young players to learn the basics of oboe playing. The composers, Hinke (a German composer who taught and worked in St. Petersburg during the reign of the Tsars), Wiedemann, Garnier and Debondue are among the finest of writers and pedagogues featured in this series. These studies begin very simply and gradually increase in difficulty, becoming more challenging melodically and rhythmically, with increasing comprehension of the instrument. Short phrases enable the student to learn to control both breathing and intonation. This collection of studies, in three volumes, can help a high school student or young professional to master technique, breathing, and intonation while developing the endurance that is vitally important for oboe players.

Yuri Maizels was born in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg) in the former Soviet Union. After the conclusion of the Second World War, he was accepted at age 13 into the Naval Boarding Musical School in Leningrad (the school which had been organized in 1873 by Rimsky-Korsakov), to study the oboe. In 1964, he graduated from the College of Music with multiple degrees in oboe performance, oboe teaching, and conducting. During his career, Yuri Maizels played in major orchestras, working with such well-known conductors such as Yuri Temirkanov, Mariss Jansons, Yuri Simionov, Valery Gergiev and others.
