Prophesies (2001) for trumpet and organ was written for and is dedicated to trumpeter Colby Cooman. The score is preceded by an epigraph from the Bible (Acts 2:17) which provided the extra-musical inspiration for the work. The work begins in stillness and continues to build until its triumphant close. The musical starting point for the work was an aria from the chamber opera, See the Promised Dawn Arise (2000). This aria becomes a central section of the work and the rest of the musical material is derived from transformations of its basic harmonic and melodic material. --Carson Cooman
