The poems are by Guillaume Apollinaire, a specialist in medieval bestiaries, who composed 30 short poems about semi-mythical animals, with accompanying woodcuts by Raoul Dufy. Orpheus, the bard of Greek mythology, is included in four of the 30 poems. Poulenc set six of the poems to music: I. Le Dromadaire; II. Le Chèvre du Thibet; III. La Sauterelle; IV. Le Dauphin; V. L'Écrevisse; VI. La Carpe. Both the chamber accompaniment and the piano accompaniment versions are available from the publisher. | Voice and Piano

The composer wrote his first piano quintet (Op. 5) in the summer of 1872. Fifteen years later, he decided to create a new quintet in the same key. The rare freshness of this quintet's spontaneous creation is apparent in the work itself, which may be described as one of the most authentic and self-revealing musical portraits in existence. | Two Violins, Viola and Violoncello and Piano

| 1535 | 15687324-D9CF-4896-9F72-1262B9ACB624 | A114102 | Concerto Grosso, Op. 6, No. 11 in B-flat | The present edition of Arcangelo Corelli's (1653-1713) CONCERTO GROSSO in B-flat Major, Op. 6, No. 11 is based on the edition by Roger of Antwerp, printed in 1714. At that time, 12 concerti grossi - namely 8 church concerti (concerti da chiesa) and 4 chamber concerti (concerti da camera) were published posthumously in 1714 under opus number 6, having been commissioned by Cardinal Pietro Ottoboni. Likely composed sometime around 1690, the concerto is scored for an ensemble of two concertino violins and a cello, plus the ripieno strings and continuo. The harpsichord or organ continuo was realized by Waldemar Woehl. The manuscript offers evidence that No. 11 may have been the last one in the set completed by the composer.
