However, around 1905, he had decided to orchestrate the compositions rather than set them for two pianos working on them between 1905-1912. The work is written in three movements: I. Gigues, II. Ibéria, and III. Rondes de printemps (Round dances of spring). But each of the three movements are customarily performed individually much as they were published. Rondes de printemps is a product of the French turn-of-the-century obsession with spring. Based on Debussy's favorite nursery tunes, Nous n'irons plus au bois and Do, do l'enfant do. One of Debussy's most modern works, the work focuses less on movement and more on tone-color. | 14048 | CE493F8C-7A67-47BF-8B13-288962DE44DD | A195802 | Deluge, Le, Op. 45: Prelude | Camille Saint-Saëns (1835-1921) composed the French oratorio Le Déluge (The Flood), Op. 45 in 1875. Using a libretto (a "poème biblique") by Louis Gallet, it tells the biblical story of Noah and the flood. In three parts with a Prélude, the full oratorio premiered on March 5, 1876, at the Théâtre du Châtelet under Edouard Colonne. Despite often being included among Saint-Saëns' best works, the oratorio is rarely performed. The Prélude, however, which includes a passage for solo violin, is more often extracted for concert performances. A string count of 8-8-5-5-5 is included in the set. | 14051 | CE54FC6B-677C-47C7-A495-EF2F965A8A7D | A696002 | Symphony No. 1 in C minor, Op. 5 | Danish composer Niels Wilhelm Gade (1817-1890) completed his SYMPHONY No. 1 in C minor, Op. 5, in 1842 with the intention of having it performed by the Copenhagen Music Society, an opportunity which that organization rejected. Following this, Gade turned to one who would become his greatest champion and his friend, Felix Mendelssohn. Mendelssohn was charmed by the work, and it was premiered by under his baton by the Gewandhaus Orchestra in Leipzig on March 2, 1843. The work never found a performance with orchestra in Copenhagen for which it was intended. The work is very much entrenched in the German Romantic tradition, but Gade utilized several Danish folk songs as thematic material throughout. | 14053 | CE60479D-E0E7-45E6-92A1-6BC0FA3E67B5 | M277791 | Elegiac Trio for Flute, Viola and Harp or Piano | Arnold Bax (1883-1953) was born in London and studied at the Royal Academy of Music. Though Bax was a fine pianist, his main interests were composing music and poetry. His strong affinity for Ireland led him to spend considerable time in that country which influenced his outlook and music. The Elegiac Trio, composed in the Spring of 1916, was clearly meant as a memorial to the friends he had lost in the Irish Easter Uprising. Not intended to be a programmatic work, there is no violence or drama to be found here. Rather, the music is dreamy and reflective, composed in one long movement divided into two sections. Although the trio was originally composed for the harp, it is eminently playable with a piano. | Flute, Viola and Harp

While he enjoyed playing several instruments, he preferred the portable folk harp, and he took this with him when he was incarcerated in the prison of El Cobre (reasons unknown) where he entertained his comrades with music and learning a large number of folk songs which were later used in his compositions. The march "Zacatecas" was composed as part of a march composition contest sponsored by Codina's brother-in-law. After winning he contest, it became so popular that it is considered Mexico's "second national anthem." This edition has been arranged for symphonic band by Richard Thurston. | Concert Band

Written for the dedication of the Votive Chapel of the Linz Cathedral, it is scored for eight-part mixed choir and a small wind ensemble. Following construction delays, the mass finally premiered on October 4, 1869 in the newly completed chapel. Eschewing grand orchestral forces, Bruckner drew instead on Renaissance polyphony and plainchant influences, blending them with his own Romantic harmonic language to create a deeply spiritual and architecturally majestic work. The choral score is available as A258291. Instrumentation: 0.2.2.2: 4.2.3.0: Double Chorus. Reprint edition. | 0.2.2.2: 4.2.3.0: Double Chorus
