The band publication, which first appeared in 1896, is very cleverly cued so as to permit performances by all brass bands, whether constituted on the British model, or by merely excluding the woodwinds.Concert Band

The strings do all the real work while piano and guitar are just for accompaniment, but they are a nice addition. Some nice call and response riffs between high and low strings really add to the excitement. Very hip! Originally published as SYMPHONY No. 3, it received its first performance at the Prague Žofín concert hall on March 25, 1879 under the baton of Adolf ?ech. In 1887, Dvo?ák dedicated the symphony to German conductor Hans von Bülow, who had been a great supporter of his work during the 1870s. Due to the rustic character of the piece and its bagpipe and hunting horn allusions, scholarship has not uncommonly referred to it as a pastoral symphony. 13320C2B7059C-3785-40D6-8ACD-A486EB72EC7CA814802Prelude and Scherzo, Op. 11 (arr. of 2 Pieces for String Octet)PRELUDE AND SCHERZO, Op. 11 is a work for string octet by Dmitri Shostakovich (1906-1975). Originally intending to create a five-movement suite in December 1924, he changed his mind the following year and replaced the fugue he had written with a scherzo to compliment the initial prelude. The two movements reveal a young, modernistic composer with its rhythmic drive and spiky dissonance. It is dedicated to the memory of his friend, the poet Vladimir Kurchavov. This Kalmus edition is here arranged for string orchestra by Lucas Drew. Instrumentation: 4Vn, 2Va, 2Vc, CB (4+4.4+4.3+2.3+2.5 in set).4Vn, 2Va, 2Vc, CB (4+4.4+4.3+2.3+2.5 in set)
