Introduction states the musical material in a number of different forms. Elegy uses transformations of the main material and combines the three voices using part-writing techniques derived heavily from early American music, especially The Southern Harmony hymnal. Following is the unabashedly silly Scherzo. The concluding section, Autumnal Voices, is wistful, recalling elements of all the preceding music. | Flute, Oboe, Bassoon | |

| 972 | 0D707CAB-F814-4BFF-A7E6-3025BCE366B4 | A113202 | Concerto Grosso, Op. 6, No. 1 in D | The present edition of Arcangelo Corelli's (1653-1713) CONCERTO GROSSO in D, Op. 6, No. 1 is based on the edition by Roger of Antwerp, printed in 1714. At that time, 12 concerti grossi - namely 8 church concerti (concerti da chiesa) and 4 chamber concerti (concerti da camera) were published posthumously in 1714 under opus number 6, having been commissioned by Cardinal Pietro Ottoboni. Likely composed sometime around 1690, the concerto is scored for an ensemble of two concertino violins and a cello, plus the ripieno strings and continuo. The harpsichord or organ continuo was realized by Waldemar Woehl. It is structured as a five-movement sonata da chiesa - a church sonata. The work was composed in three days during July, 1960. The Quartet is autobiographical and uses themes from earlier works. The opening theme is an adaption of the composer's name to German sounds: (D-S-C-H). This string orchestra version enhances the deep emotion of this significant work of Shostakovich. The integrity of the phrasing and articulation of the urtext edition has been respected in this edition of Shostakovich's Quartet No. 8. A count of 8-8-5-5-5 strings are included in the set.
