72DA1560-3C9A-4397-A242-3297BA467D83 | A919390 | The Gliding Girl | John Philip Sousa (1854-1932) wrote music in a variety of styles and was particularly adept at dance music, which, of course, was the original purpose of the march. The Gliding Girl is a tango, and its relaxed tempo and style will provide an effective contrast to his standard marches. This present edition by Loras John Schissel was prepared using Sousa's holograph wind band score, copyist parts for Sousa's own orchestral edition, and his personal taped interviews of over sixty former musicians of Sousa's concert band regarding the composer's own unique interpretation of this work. Instrumentation: 2+Picc.2.2.2: 4.2.3.1: Timp.Perc(4-5): Hp(opt): Str (9-8-7-6-5 in set). | 2+Picc.2.2.2: 4.2.3.1: Timp.Perc(4-5): Hp(opt): Str (9-8-7-6-5 in set) |

72E84B1C-A60E-4C6E-A0CB-A4607931E098 | SO131C | Intrada in C Major | Johann Christoph Graupner (1683 - 1760) was a German harpsichordist and composer of high Baroque music who was a contemporary of Bach, Telemann and Handel. His short Intrada in C, written originally for harpsichord, is carefully adapted in this easy string orchestra transcription by Bingiee Shiu. Despite being hardworking and prolific, with about 2000 surviving works in his catalog, Graupner’s music fell into obscurity after his death, due in part to a legal disupte over the ownership of his manuscripts, as well as the change of taste in musical styles that would usher in the Classical period. Interestingly, just prior to Bach, Graupner was offered the Cantorate position in Leipzig, which he had accepted until his current patron, in a sudden change of heart, paid the back wages Graupner had been owed, along with a significant increase in salary to retain him, opening the way for Bach’s appointment. Today, Graupner's music is enjoying a revival due to the efforts of musicologists, performers and educators. | String orchestra |

Young cellists will love having the melody and several brief solos. Though the focus is on the cellos, every section has plenty to do. Shifting in bass part is marked clearly. Its repetitive rhythms and finger patterns make this an easy piece to teach in a group setting. Optional piano and 3rd violin parts are included. | String Orchestra | |

7300EEB7-E309-4DE8-846E-7FD52E4FE922 | S1046CB | Serenata | Serenata was first performed on May 10, 1947 as an encore at the Boston Pops, with Arthur Fiedler conducting. Fiedler would later praise the piece as among the conductor's favorites. Lyrics were added by Mitchell Parish in 1950, which would lead to recordings by the likes of Sarah Vaughan and Nat King Cole. With a beguine rhythm as a background, Anderson’s inspiration from the Latin-American serenade would give the piece its title. This publication is the first-ever to offer a full score, edited by Mark Rogers, offering Anderson’s enchanting work to new generations of audiences. | Concert Band |

73049654-4FB3-41F9-8AFF-B3DFA51FDD9C | ST948 | Ave Verum Corpus | Mozart composed the motet "Ave Verum Corpus" in Baden on June 17th, 1791 for his friend Anton Stoll, the vocal choir master. The motet, scored for chorus, strings and organ continuo was intended primarily for funeral use; and less than 6 months later, on Dec. 5th, 1791, Mozart himself was dead. In this transcription, the four solo flutes are an equivalent of the string parts while the tutti flutes duplicate the chorus parts an octave higher. The piece may be performed by flutes alone, preferably with more than one player on each of the tutti parts, or as an accompaniment to a choral version. In the latter case, the tutti parts can be used to double the chorus or be omitted altogether. | Flute Choir |
