| 5483 | 4FCCC63D-5471-48E2-8417-F44E907769A5 | 18100001 | Ballad | BALLAD is a set of Variations on an archaic chorale-like theme. In the five variations, all instruments of the band are used in such a way as to help evoke a great variety of contrasting moods. Includes purposely written important and rather challenging parts for the Bells and Chimes. It is part of Vaclav Nelhybel's ABC Series, a series conceived with the technical limitations of young performing groups in mind, carefully planning every structural composition device and use of instruments in order to make all parts equally important, boosting the feeling of importance of every player and furthering the development of the whole performing group. | Concert Band | |
| 5484 | 4FCF4C6E-958E-4AC5-BA46-7E9840A14F3F | S151008 | Diversion (revised edition) | Diversion was composed while Bernhard Heiden served as Assistant Bandmaster for the 445th US Army band during World War II. This revised print edition has been carefully edited, correcting minor errors with bar numbering to match the 2015 Southern band publication. The influence of the composer’s mentor, Paul Hindemith is evident in the tonal but non-diatonic harmonies, paired with Heiden’s own elegant melodic writing. Constructed in a loose rondo form, the work is light and tuneful, revealing a mastery of instrumentation. Graceful lines for the solo saxophone contrast with distinctive tutti sections, providing interesting variety and underlining climactic moments. The revised band edition is published by Southern Music (S938). | Alto Saxophone and Piano | |

| 5490 | 4FEC588D-3CE3-424E-9F7A-EBD132988BDE | R00902 | North Country Concerto | This cello concerto includes four programmatic movements. The first movement, Early in the Morning - at the Break of Day, refers to the energy one often has during the first part of the day, with a spirited solo part. Movement II, A Stillness, focuses on short patterns, which vary slightly and grow in intensity as the music slowly unfolds. The third movement, An Arc in the Sky, is influenced by rough-hewn folk music. And movement IV is based on the familiar "Riddle Song" ("I gave my love a cherry that had no stone, I gave my love a baby with no cryin',") full of sighing motives and blues harmonies and non-tonal excursions that surround a simple tune. A piano reduction of the complete concerto is available from the publisher, and the complete concerto and the third movement alone are also available for rent. | Cello, PianoMovements 1-4 Reduction from:Cello Solo 2.2.2.2: 2.2.1.0: Percussion(1): Strings | |

| 5500 | 5007EBD6-5ED4-4CD2-8343-4D4B5BF93206 | 50730006 | Cello Concerto, Op. 85 | Considered the last notable work of Sir Edward Elgar (1857-1934), his Cello Concerto is a cornerstone of the solo violoncello repertoire. Composed in the aftermath of World War I, it premiered in October of 1919. The premier was reportedly quite the debacle, as Elgar (as director) and the performers of the London Symphony Orchestra had not been allotted proper rehearsal time from director Albert Coates, who overran his rehearsal time at Elgar’s expense. Composed in the summer of 1919, the first theme supposedly came to Elgar during a dangerous procedure to remove an infected tonsil. Upon waking from sedation, he asked for a pencil and paper and began sketching out the melody. The Cello Concerto did not achieve popularity until the 1960’s, where a recording by renowned cellist Jacqueline du Pré made it into a classical best-seller, driving a popularity that remains through today. This LudwigMasters edition for cello and piano is edited by the internationally renowned cellist Zuill Bailey. | Violoncello and Piano |
