| 2062 | 1D39A596-3234-4C41-868B-BEFA47E543B6 | A906202 | Arietta for String Orchestra | Leroy Anderson composed "Arietta" in 1962 in Woodbury, Connecticut. The main melody first materialized as a brief eight-measure sketch for viola and cello, intended for Leroy Anderson's daughter Jane on viola and himself on cello. Anderson later decided to expand the melody into a composition for string orchestra. Leroy Anderson is known for his polished orchestrations of descriptive compositions, characterized as romantic or nostalgic in theme. "Arietta" stands in contrast as an elegant, cool and somewhat abstract piece. "...the string part of the orchestra and string orchestra editions are identical, since the music is complete with strings alone. Wind parts of the orchestra editions double the strings for added color and may be used as available." An American Pops classic in it's original scoring, this work is part of the Anderson Classics Series by E.F. Kalmus. This set for just string orchestra includes a string count of 8-8-5-5-5. | String Orchestra (8-8-5-5-5 in set) | |

| 2064 | 1d3a65a2-9e3b-11f0-a418-0022482c9682 | M306091 | Joy to the World [orchestration for high voice, D] | JOY TO THE WORLD is the most-published Christmas carol in North America, despite the work not being written for Christmas. The text was written by English minister and hymnist Isaac Watts in 1719. The melody to which the text is set is by American composer Lowell Mason (1792-1872), who saw it published in The Modern Psalmist in 1839, but it seems likely that much of the melodic material was borrowed from G.F. Handel's MESSIAH, but there is still much speculation about the extent. This beloved Christmas carol has been orchestrated and arranged for high voice and orchestra (key of D) by Steven Rosenhaus. The score/parts (A836290) and vocal score (M306091) are available separately. A version for low voice and orchestra (A836190/M305991) in the key of B-flat is also available from the publisher. | High Voice and Piano | |
| 2065 | 1D3A7AC2-98F5-447D-AA06-8ED71D0CB585 | A807402 | Charterhouse Suite, The | Ralph Vaughan Williams (1872-1958) composed a collection entitled SUITE OF SIX SHORT PIECES FOR PIANO in 1920, and this led to musicologist James Brown, in collaboration with the composer, to arrange the set of works for string orchestra under the title CHARTERHOUSE SUITE, which was then published in 1923. Less serious than other works by Vaughan Williams, this suite presents the English composer's lighter, more colorful side. This charming arrangement remains a mainstay in the string orchestra concert repertoire, and has found some use as educational repertoire for more advanced students. Movements: I. Prelude. Molto moderato, II. Slow Dance. Andante grazioso, III. Quick Dance. Allegro molto, IV. Slow Air. Lento, V. Rondo. Andante con moto, VI. Pezzo ostinato. Allegretto. Reprint edition. | String Orchestra (8-8-5-5-5 in set) | |
