16602F2D1A169-D7E8-4DAE-9641-6C6BF172793EA258102Mass No. 3 in F minorAnton Bruckner (1824-1896) completed the 1st version of his Mass No. 3 in F minor in 1863, as Otto Kitzler was introducing him to the music of Richard Wagner, the composer he would emulate for the rest of his life. John Herbeck, who conducted the initial rehearsals for its premiere at the Augustinerkirch on June 16, 1872, warmly declared that it stood beside Beethoven's Missa Solemnis in greatness. Bruckner, often self-critical as a composer, went on to revise the work no less than four times until it was finally published it in 1894. More often heard today in the concert hall than in the church, the sprawling, hour-long work is admired today for its powerful directness. This critical edition was created in 1944 for the Bruckner Gesamtausgabe by Robert Maria Haas.2.2.2.2: 2.2.3.0: Timp: Org (ad libitum)*: Str (4-4-3-3-3 in set): Solo SATB: Mix Chor. *Organ ad limitum absent from Haas edition

Originally titled Nature, Life, and Love, Dvo?ák decided to publish each with a more distinct identity: NATURE'S REALM, Op. 91 for nature, CARNIVAL, Op. 92 for life, and OTHELLO, Op. 93 for love. IN NATURE'S REALM opens with a highly poetic stylization of the voices of nature, with the main theme making use of Moravian folk yodeling. Johannes Brahms noted in a letter to Dvo?ák's publisher that the work was "merry" and remarked that, "music directors will be thankful to you" for publishing the overtures. The work premiered on April 28th, 1892, by the Orchestra of the National Theatre in Prague, Dvo?ák conducting. Instrumentation: 2.2+EH.2+BCl.2: 4.2.3.1: Timp.Perc(1): Str (9-8-7-6-5 in set). 16615F2F0293F-5D86-4FCE-915F-269754B80AE5A709002Concerti Armonici: Concertino No. 1 in G (spuriously attributed to Ricciotti)The six CONCERTI ARMONICI were long thought to be the work of the violinist-impresario Carlo Ricciotti or composer Giovanni Battista Pergolesi, but more recent research has revealed the composer to be Unico Wilhelm van Wassenauer (1692-1766). Born into a wealthy Dutch family, the diplomat and composer founded a Collegium musicum in The Hague under the oversight of Ricciotti. Composed between 1725 and 1740, the six concertos have been falsely attributed to a variety of contemporaries, Ricciotti and Pergolesi amongst them, since its anonymous publication. Wassenauer's aristocratic background was the reason for his secretiveness. The sentiment of the time ordained that musicians belong to the lower classes. This edition of CONCERTINO No. 1 (also CONCERTO ARMONICO in G Major, CONCERTO I, or just CONCERTINO in G), drawing from the CONCERTO ARMONICO in G, was edited by 20th century Baroque expert Johann Philipp Hinnenthal. While Hinnenthal spuriously attributes the work to Ricciotti, he acknowledges that the composer may also be Pergolesi or an unknown third composer. Despite Wassenauer's authorship having since been confirmed, Hinnenthal's original editorial notes have been retained. 16618F2F98AC2-3838-4A25-9073-E99A80171BA6A609190Ciaccona (Chaconne in G minor) [attributed] [transcription]Tomaso Antonio Vitali (1663-1745), the eldest son of Giovanni Battista Vitali, was a composer in his own right as well as a violinist. The piece for which he is most well-known, the Chaconne in G minor (Ciaccona) for solo violin and continuo, was attributed to him in a 1867 publication Die hohe Schule des Violinspiels (No.13) edited by Ferdinand David, but it was considered until recently to be a "musical hoax" given that certain compositional practices found in the work were uncommon in the Baroque era generally and in other Vitali works specifically. More recent discoveries lend some credence to Vitali being the authentic composer, although the conclusion is not yet firm. Regardless, the piece has remained popular with violinists. This transcription for solo violin, organ, and string orchestra (8-8-5-5-5 in set) was completed by Ottorino Respighi.Org (in sc): Str (8-8-5-5-5): Solo Violin (in set)
