Boyd's setting is not a simple rehashing of the famous Ravel orchestration, as Boyd remains more faithful to the bold musical language of Mussorgsky's original composition. This exciting work fits the bill for better high school and college bands, yet is substantial enough to meet the needs of professional organizations as well. The work is available in its entirety with all seven sections and the score included at a value-minded price, or each of the individual sections may be ordered individually as a set of parts only and the complete score (10105314) may be purchased separately should only certain sections be of interest. | 7964 | 74DAFDA4-CB30-41E0-9515-705F8602AFDD | A136002 | Kol Nidrei, Op. 47 | Max Bruch (1838-1920) wrote KOL NIDREI, Op. 47 (ALL VOWS) for solo cello and orchestra in 1880. The work presents as an Adagio on two Jewish melodies, the first being the Kol Nidre declaration, which is recited during Yom Kippur's evening service, with the solo cello functioning as the rhapsodic voice of the cantor. The second theme is a quotation from the middle section of Isaac Nathan's arrangement of "O Weep for Those that Wept on Babel's Stream," a lyric written by Lord Byron. The work was dedicated to and premiered by cellist Robert Hausmann, who had requested that Bruch write it for him. KOL NIDREI is among Bruch's most frequently performed works, second only to his VIOLIN CONCERTO No. 1. Instrumentation: 2.2.2.2: 4.2.3.0: Timp: Hp: Str (9-8-7-6-5 in set): Solo Violoncello. | 7971 | 750507C6-BCD7-43D4-BD62-AF63D9838F75 | M915602 | March of the Two Left Feet (band version) | Leroy Anderson first mentioned The March of the Two Left Feet in a letter he wrote in 1947. However, he didn't actually finish the work for orchestra until 1969. This wacky, fast polka was premiered in 1970 and is based on Anderson's reading of the P.G. Wodehouse book, The Man With Two Left Feet. Anderson never completed a band arrangement of this work, even though he usually did band arrangements of his own orchestral compositions. Dr. John Boyd made this band arrangement after careful study and comparison with Anderson's own band works. | Concert Band

The "Concerto for Oboe and Strings in D minor, Op. 1" is his best known work, a status affirmed by J.S. Bach's transcription for harpsichord. This C minor transposition is based on a 1717 manuscript, and suggests that C minor might have been the originally intended key. This version is often misattributed to Alessandro's brother Benedetto, another composer of the era. | Full Orchestra

Possibly composed originally with five movements (the Menuetto and Trio appears to be lost), the special title "Eine kleine Nachtmusik" was likely not given to the work by W.A. Mozart (1756-1791) as it derived from an entry in his personal catalog, almost certainly acting as a mere record of his having completed a little serenade. The work was not published until 1827 along with a bundle of Mozart's other works sold by his widow Constanze, and no record exists of a commission or performance in Mozart's lifetime that might clear up the intent for the title. Still, the serenade remains among Mozart's most popular and recognizable works. Movements: I. Allegro, II. Romanze, III. Menuetto, and IV. Rondo. This critical edition by internationally recognized Mozart expert Ernst Fritz Schmid was released as part of the Neue Mozart Ausgabe (New Mozart Edition) project.
