| Long Bio | Meyrelles came to the United States with his brothers Joaquin and Pedro in 1870. There he, as well as his brothers, worked as a musician, conductor of concert orchestras, arranger and composer. For example, he arranged overtures and selections from the major European operas for concert band. Today, operations of the Overture to "Rienzi" from Richard Wagner, the Overture to the opera "Les Diamants de la couronne (The crown diamonds)" from Daniel-François-Esprit Auber, the Overture to the opera "Zampa, ou La fiancée de marbre" from Ferdinand Hérold, the Leonore Overture No. 3, On.72b from Ludwig van Beethoven and the Funeral March of a Marionette from Charles Gounod on the desks of the American harmony orchestras. As a composer he wrote numerous marches and dances (Boston Trombone Polka (1882) et cetera) for concert band. |
