J011athan Bruce Brown has written many works for orchestra, choir, wind ensemble, and other combinations of instruments and artists. His modern yet lyrical style has made him a frequent recipient of commissions for new works, particularly in his home state of Michigan.
After completing the Bachelor of Arts in Music degree from Central Michigan University, Dr. Brown studied composition with Neil McKay at the University of Hawaii, where his Thesis composition, Three Pieces For Orchestra, was performed by the Honolulu Symphony. He completed his Doctoral studies under Martin Mailman at The University of North Texas, where his works earned top honors in competitions in New York and Texas.
Performances of his works have taken Dr. Brown across the country, with appearances in Hawaii, Texas, California, and Virginia, among others.
Currently Professor of Music and Chairman ofthe Music Department at Michigan's Spring Arbor College, Dr. Brown has received the Sears-Roebuck Foundation Award for teaching excellence and Campus Leadership in 1991, and, in 1988 and 1995, the Faculty Merit Award. |
