Short BioFreda Gronowetter is a Canadian cellist and educator. A student at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, she studied with Serge Stupin, Alfred Wallenstein, Joseph Schuster, Emmanuel Feuerman, Gregor Piatigorsky, and Pablo Casals. While in Canada, she was the recipient of the 1st price in the Canada National Exposition (1930), awarded by the Royal Conservatory of Music (1931), and the New York City Women's Club (1935). She has also been listed as a noteworthy cellist and educator by the Marquis Who's Who. Gronowetter moved to the United states in 1938. Over her career she played with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, the American Symphony Orchestra, the New York City Opera Company, the Ballet Theatre Orchestra, and the Markova-Dolin Ballet Company.
