Edward Applebaum 034113
Edward Applebaum studied at UCLA and at the Royal Academy in Stockholm; his teachers included Henri Lazarof, Lukas Foss and Ingvar Lidholm. He has held several orchestral residencies, and has received awards from, among others, the NEA, Ford and Rockefeller Foundations, American-Scandinavian Foundation and the Australian Research Council. These awards have been granted in a variety of disciplines, including the creative arts,
humanities, higher education, and the neurosciences.
His music has been performed throughout the United States, Europe, Japan, Israel, and Australia. His Symphony NO.2 won First Prize in the Kennedy Center's Friedheim Awards in .• ~q4. Aside from his four symphonies, he has written a number of concertos, chamber w-orks, an opera on Edvard Munch, and an oratorio Song Of The Sparrows, based upon the last days in the life of Janusz Korchak. His most recent recording is From Now, for solo percussion.
He has held Professorships in the faculties of the University of California at Santa Barbara, Florida State University, and Edith Cowan University. He is currently Professor of Composition at the Shepherd School of Music, Rice University. |
