"Siegfried’s Death and Funeral Music" (Trauermusik beim Tode Siegfrieds) depicts the tragic end to the heroic life of Siegfried. Stabbed in the back after betraying the Valkyrie Brunnhilde under the influence of a potion, he recalls his love for her with his last breath. A solemn march (Trauermarsch), weaving the Siegfried motif into its strains, follows his funeral journey back to the Gibichung hall.
