Marketing CopyDuring the early years of the 20th Century, the Navy football team endured a drubbing from their arch rival West Point Cadets each year during the Army-Navy football game. In 1906 Zimmerman composed "March for the Graduating Class of 1907" which was premiered at a concert the night prior to that year's game. The band repeated the lively melodic march the next day before the football game, and many observers maintained it was the catalyst for the Navy's great victory over the Army's team that fall. Later that year, the title was changed to "Anchors Aweigh" after words were added to the wonderful trio. The song was later adopted as the official song of the US Navy. This setting commissioned by the United States Naval Academy Band, Lt. Commander Melvin Kessler, conductor.
