He became professor of bassoon at the Paris Conservatory by 1795 and was bassoonist for the Grand Opera from 1801-26. His compositions include overtures, symphonies, concertantes, various ensembles, studies for wind instruments, and a tutor for bassoon. The concertantes in this collection, transcribed for two bassoons by James Thornton, are from a group of six under Opus 8, written for clarinet and bassoon.
