Dedication(not set)
Program NotesSeacoasts initiated with a commission from the Long Beach Symphony Orchestra for a fanfare to celebrate the new Millennium. The first movement, "Long Beach Celebration," is intended to be a short burst of joy and energy. Perhaps the sunshine and ocean views of Long Beach, CA inspired this sunny piece.

After a March 2000 excursion to Long Beach, the composer soon found herself in Portsmouth, NH for a choral concert. The (darker) New England seashore led to the creation of "Sunken Treasures," which features an often-sinking Tuba part. The listener might see/hear waves, sea creatures and glistening gems.

The final movement, "Hornpipe" is an homage to the British Isles. The familiar "Sailors' Hornpipe" is quoted and animated by agile brass players!

Seacoasts was composed during the Apring of 2000 in the composer's studio in Braintree, Vermont -- far from the sea.
