| Program Notes | An Adventure at Grannie's is intended as a musical-theatrical presentation. Some staging instructions are provided in the score. The players are asked to assume their character roles as much as they are comfortable. In rehearsal preparation for a performance, the performers should work towards an integration of the speaking and playing as closely as possible so that the works and music interact without pauses. | Review | "Gwyneth's music speaks to everyone somehow, some way... whether through her humor, sense of retrospection or tenderness, sheer joy, or seriousness. Sometimes there's a more obvious mission, such as literal story-telling, where she includes a narrator. Gwyneth allows the story to come alive right before us so that there's a sense of immediacy in its creation and we become a part of it. Other times, such as in her Raise the Roof, the spirit gathered in the room is collectively effusive, alive, warm and soulful in its joy. In her Braintree Quintet, where at one moment there is laughter in the audience as the oboist and bassoonist simulate sounds of bleating sheep, and at another there is the undeniable sense that the audience has unified; an unforeseen group meditation experience. I am not only moved by that specific movement, but I feel that the audience is at once with me and yet far away into themselves. How could I not want to share all of that? --Carole Lemire, EQUINOX CHAMBER PLAYERS |
