Program NotesThe Divertimento No. 4 was composed in 1980 for a Miami, Florida ensemble called the Contemporary Baroque Trio, and premiered by them in Florida and New York City later that year. It has also received performances at the International Society of Bassists conference, and at other festivals in the USA and Europe. The piece is composed of six relatively short "movements" (entitled Scherzo, Aria, Soliloquy, Fixation, Accompanied Cadenza, and Rondo/Scherzo) which are connected. All the movements are, in fact, variations -- upon the them which is heard near the work's conclusion.
