He was great admirer of Tchaikovsky whose Symphony No. 6 he praised. Karlowicz's music inhabits a primary place in the history of Polish music between Chopin and Karol Szymanowski. The Violin Concerto was written for and dedicated to his former teacher Stanis?aw Barcewicz, who premiered the work under Kar?owicz's baton in Berlin on 21 March 1903 with the Berlin Philharmonic. Recorded by: Tasmin Little, violin with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, Martyn Brabbins, conductor (Hyperion CDA67389, 2003).
