It is based on a German translation of a story from LALLA-ROOKH, an 1817 collection of four chivalric romances by Thomas Moore. The tale, divided into two parts depicts a supernatural winged creature from Persian folklore, called a peri, who tries to regain entry into Paradise after having been expelled.
