| Program Notes | It is a work in one movement that briefly recounts the mythological flight of Daedalus and his son, Icarus, from Crete and the wrath of King Minos. Waxen wings were fashioned for the escape over the sea. The admonition given by Daedalus to his son to avoid close proximity to the sun went unheeded. Icarus plunged precipitously into the sea when the wax melted on his wings as his father watched in horror. --George Walker |
