| Program Notes | Sonaspheres 1, composed in 1980 is the first in a series of five compositions, which are related by various melodic shapes and motives. The five compositions are Sonaspheres 1, Nexus, Ensphere, TrOmPer, And Sonashpheres 2. All five can be programmed together as well as individually. Following a brief introduction in which the principal rhythmic, melodic, and harmonic material is presented Sonaspheres 1 is formed in five large sections. These sections (spheres) each have distinct and contrasting 'sound-qualities,' and orchestrational concept from which the title is drawn. As presented in the introduction, the characteristic of extreme contrast in and of all elements and moods is developed throughout the work by a variation technique. |
