Opera summary;

Set in an eighteenth century Italian village, Star of Love tells the sad, yet heart-warming tale of Lorenzo, a wandering minstrel, and his romantic misfortunes. Under a star-lit Tuscan sky, Lorenzo enters playing his hurdy-gurdy and singing the praises of his carefree life. But his joyful refrain turns into a song of lament, He has no one to love on this lovely night.

Supported by a cast of eclectic townsfolk and a chorus of trees and grapevines, we follow Lorenzo's quest for true love. Little Vina needs a song to sweeten the grapes, Biscottie claims the song Lorenzo played for Little Vina was the royal gig of the Family Biscottie and Senior Lira will have nothing to do with a lowly minstrel. Lorenzo is a bit dismayed but then sees a shooting star. "Yeah, Dats a gooda luck!" In song Lorenzo relates the legend of the great lovers Pepperoni and Ravioli when stardust fell on them, Pepperoni climbed to the sky and gave Ravioli a star and sealed their love forever. "Now all I need is a girl!" Lorenzo says. He waits... and waits... until he falls asleep.

Lorenzo is awakened by Belle Spaghetti and Fettucinne Alfredo. The young lovers' have a silly argument and Alfredo rides off on his horse. Lorenzo is smitten with the lovely Spaghetti. Lorenzo tries to whoo Spaghetti but is always interrupted by Vina, Biscottie, or Lira. Spaghetti fitl1s asleep and Lorenzo plays the beautiful ballad AH1 Beauty which leads into a dream sequence ballet. Lorenzo dreams Spaghetti falls in love with him the evil Black Knight attempts to kidnap Spaghetti but Lorenzo saves her. But when Lorenzo tries to climb to the sky and give her a star (the Star of Love) it falls and hits him on the head. While he is dazed the dream sequence ends and Alfredo returns on his horse. Alfivdo sprinkles stardust on Spaghetti. She awakes and he gives her the Star of Love. The lovers embrace ride off together.

When Lorenzo comes to his senses Spaghetti is gone. Lorenzo is heart-broken. He sits at the foot of the statue of San Geno and goes to sleep. The cast return one by one to sing the praises of the poor minstrel. He opened Lira's heart to love. He reminded Biscottie of his family's glorious past. He sweetened Little Vina's grapes with music. He helped reunite the two lovers Spaghetti and Alfiedo. Then in one voice they sing "'Wish on a star and your dreams will come true, someday love will come" while Spaghetti lays the Star of Love next to Lorenzo and gently covers him. Star of Love is a celebration of the Power of Love and the Power of Music.
