| Program Notes | Other Dreams, Other Dreamers is single movement work for orchestra. As the title implies, there is a dreamlike veil of sound pervading the piece. This veil of sound is created by various horizontal and vertical stackings of major and minor thirds. At times this veil of sound is in the foreground as in hte opening string and percussion chords. At other times, it serves as a backdrop against which melodic events are thrown into relief. Most of the ideas, especially the melodies, occuring in the early part are recycled throughout the piece. The title and dreamlike mood were inspired by a video documentary of the life and work of Walt Whitman. --Theodore Dollarhide |
