When Honor WHISPERS AND SHOUTS was commissioned by the United States Marine Band as part of the celebration of the band's 200th birthday. It is dedicated to the United States Marine Band, Col. John Bourgeois and Lt. Col. Timothy Foley, conductors. The work is subdedicated to Bob C. Riley, former Lt. Governor and Governor of the State of Arkansas, who was the composer's favorite Marine. Bob Riley was severely wounded in Okinawa when he was seventeen years old, and was the composer's best friend until his death in 1995.
