| Marketing Copy | Entropy seeks to create a musical experience of “entropy.” Beginning with a definition of entropy found in “Webster’s 7th New Collegiate Dictionary, 1965,” read by Tom Bryant of WSM Nashville, the music alternates greater and lesser degrees of order culminating in a final improvisatory section in which previously presented electronic materials are heard at high speed while the pianist abandons ordered pitch to move freely with mallets on the strings and soundboard of the piano. Commissioned by the Nashville Youth Symphony Orchestra, Willis Page, conductor, Entropy is for double brass sextet [4431], improvisation group (flute, piano, celesta, and harp), and electronic tape and was premiered in 1967. The tape part was created in the Electronic Music Studio of the Peabody College School of Music (in Nashville). Recorded on 33rpm on Golden Crest Records – CR 4085 |
