Title NameIntermezzo from the Opera Goyescas
Marketing CopyEnrique Granados (1867-1916) first wrote a six-piece piano suite titled GOYESCAS in 1911, inspired by the paintings of Francisco Goya. The suite was well-received, so Granados was encouraged by American pianist Ernest Schelling to compose an opera based on the music. The opera, which consisted of only three scenes in a single act, was unique for requiring that the libretto be fitted to the already-existing melodies rather than the usual reverse. The INTERMEZZO from the opera has become a popular concert piece in its own right, and it is commonly performed by orchestra and by an arrangement for cello and piano. This version for cello quartet has been transcribed and edited by Emilio Colón.
