The lyrical "Air" provides opportunities to focus on tone, phrasing and musicality. The second movement is a very traditional "Minuet" which offers greater challenges to ensemble playing. The last movement, "Jig," is the most technically challenging of the three. Together, these three short pieces provide a complete musical work which can be performed by several arrangements of saxophone quartet, ranging from four altos to two altos, one tenor and one baritone.
