| Title Name | String Quartet in A minor |
| Marketing Copy | While Fritz Kreisler (1875-1963) is best-known as a violin virtuoso and for writing encore pieces for his instrument, he was also a very talented composer. His STRING QUARTET in A minor is proof of this fact. Rejecting the new developments introduced to music after World War I by composers such as Schoenberg and his Second Vienna School, Kreisler retained some traditional tonalism in his music, though it still was distinguishable from the late-19th century romanticism. Despite saying of the work, "It is my tribute to Vienna," the city of his birth, Kreisler never confirmed the suggestion that the string quartet was intended to be programmatic and autobiographical. The premiere took place on April 26, 1919, by the Letz Quartet in New York City. Reprint edition. |
