Marketing CopyEdward Elgar (1857-1934) composed his adagio for string orchestra, SOSPIRI, Op. 70, just before the onset of World War I. Originally planned to compliment his SALUT D’AMOUR for violin and piano, he decided that its intense nature of expression made it well suited it to be a stand-alone work for string orchestra, and it is often performed in that setting still. This reprint Masters edition for the original instrumentation of violin and piano also includes versions for viola and cello transcribed by Julius Klengel.
