Dedication(not set)
Program NotesThe work begins with a soft, pleasant melody promising to be a calm and meditative experience. About ten seconds in a cell phone rings, interrupting the mood but the orchestra plays on unaffected. The phone rings again, followed by a third time when the conductor decides to answer the ring with the orchestra. Later another ring happens, the orchestra answers that, and soon the cell phone is driving the mood and tunes of the piece. A duet develops between the cell phone and the instruments and the piece builds till the entire audience is cued to ring their phones too. The final blow is when the conductor's phone rings and after answering the call the conductor tries to finish the piece and talk at the same time. Finally the music stops and the conductor says to the person on the line, "I will have to call you back." Remembering they are still in the piece, he turns back to the musicians who play the final note. --David Rimelis
