| Program Notes | A -lick+ is a fast jazz figure. Atlanta Licks refers to many kinds of music, but above all to jazz. Although the instrumentation does not suggest jazz and although the rhythms should be played accurately as notated, the music must swing-by accentuation, not by displacing notes or beats rhythmically. This jazz-like accentuation is not-in fact could be-noted; nonetheless most sections of the music (not just those passages marked -swing!+) must suggest jazz, at least subtly. |
