| Program Notes | Odessa, Ukraine The Odessa Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Hobart Earle, gave the world premiere of Lauren Keiser's new work for orchestra, "9/11," on September 11, 2009. The nine minute works depicts the overwhelming tragedy and grief along with the miraculous heroism of that auspicious day. Mr. Keiser was in downtown Manhattan when it happened, as the first plane flew over his head a few blocks from the Twin Towers. Hobart Earle, Music Director of the Odessa group and student of Leonard Bernstein, asked Mr. Keiser to finish the work after he heard about the sketch that was done in 2001. The piece was warmly and enthusiastically accepted by the Odessa audiences as it was performed twice on September 11 & 12. Mr. Earle stated: "It is the most powerful nine minutes of music I have ever conducted." |
