Program NotesSmmer-soft is a two-movement work for chamber orchestra. As the title suggests, it is a quiet, evocative composition in which all climaxes are gentle and dramatic tension has been scaled down to a low level. Throughout the piece, the fine line between canonic techniques and heterophony is explored. As the time interval of canonic entrances is reduced, the integrity of the individual voices becomes blurred and a change of perception may take place -- resulting in heterophony. --Mark Phillips
