The LACHIAN DANCES (in Czech: LAŠSKÉ TANCE) was the first mature work by the Czech composer Leoš Janá?ek (1854-1928). Originally titled WALLACHIAN DANCES after the Moravian Wallachia region, Janá?ek later changed the title when the region's name also changed, since it reflects folk songs from that specific area. Composing the collection between 1888-1890, the original version saw its premiere on January 11, 1889, in Olomouc, although Janá?ek began to rework the title in 1925, making a new selection and ordering of numbers, along with changes in orchestration. This revised version was published in 1928 and is what is used in this E.F. Kalmus edition. Movements: 1. Starodávný ("the Ancient One"); 2. Požehnaný ("the Blessed"). Instrumentation: 2+Picc.2+EH(opt.).2+BCl(opt.).2: 4.2.3.0: Timp.Perc(1): Hp.Org(opt.).Lira: Str (9-8-7-6-5 in set). Reprint edition. The complete set of all six dance as well as individual edition of Nos. 3-4 and Nos. 5.6 are also available from the publisher.
